5 Tips for highering the right videographer for your wedding
You probably think you’ve seen a blog post like this before. “36 Important Questions to Ask Your Wedding Videographer”.
This is not that!!
We don’t know who came up with these silly questions, but knowing what kind of equipment we use, how we will dress, or asking about our shot list are not helpful in finding the right fit for you. Instead, we are sharing a list of tips for finding a wedding videographer that is going to make sure you are well taken care of in all the ways that matter.
1) SET UP A MEETING
Make sure to set up a phone call, FaceTime, or in person meeting. It is so hard to really get a good feel for someone over email. A meeting will help you get to know each other and make sure your personality’s mesh well. You will spend more time with your videographer and photographer than any other vendor on your wedding day so you want to make sure you get along.
2) REVIEW THEIR WORK
Now this one may seem like common sense, but make sure you familiarize yourself with their work to make sure it aligns with the vision you have for your film. If you love everything on their website chances are you will love your film even more, because it’s your story.
3) DON’T ASK ABOUT STYLE
Style is very subjective, it’s based on the artists personal taste and feelings. Instead of asking about a videographers style, ask this: What would working with you on our wedding day be like? The description of how a videographer approaches the wedding day defines their work better than labels, and it will articulate their “style” in a way that you’ll clearly understand.
4) LOOK AT A FULL GALLERY
Ask to see a full gallery. We cannot stress this one enough!!! Most videographers (including us) put their very best work on their websites and social media, but this doesn’t show you what a full gallery looks like. Whatever package you are considering, ask to view a full gallery of that package. This will save you from hiring someone who gets magical sunset shots, but doesn’t know how to shoot a dark reception. This will show you what their work is like in all kinds of scenarios.
5) ASK FOR TESTIMONIALS OR REFERENCES
This last tip actually came from one of our brides and we thought it was so GENIUS that we have to share. Ask to see reviews or testimonials that you can read or ask for references from vendors they have worked with. Unfortunately, we have seen some heartbreaking situations where a bride hired a vendor and they were a nightmare to work with on the wedding day. Thousands of followers, likes, and breath taking work can be very sexy, but it doesn’t mean anything if they show up late, unorganized, and pushy. Great testimonials and references will ensure that you don’t get “cat fished”.
